On February 10, 1919, thirty-nine women were arrested for protesting in front of the White House. Known as the Silent Sentinels, they attempted to catch President Woodrow Wilson’s eyes and conscience with their banners. They are credited with being the first major political movement to stage a protest on the White House lawn and this play begins with what they might have talked about that fateful night.
